The market town of Žehušice lies on the Doubrava River, about 8 km east of Kutná Hora. In 2025, it had approximately 901 residents.

Žehušice was first mentioned in writing in 1352, when it was owned by Vítek ze Žehušic. Žehušice Chateau was built by Michael Osvald Thun-Hohenstein in 1679 and underwent a Neoclassical reconstruction between 1810 and 1826. The Church of St Mark is a Baroque building dating from 1760.
